Fetty Wap was released after serving six years in prison in a significant drug trafficking case
Officially, Fetty Wap is no longer in prison.
The rapper from New Jersey has been released from federal jail, ending a chapter that began with his well-known drug conviction and instantly altered the course of his career. After Fetty posted a single word on his Instagram Story, “Home,” fans began piecing the puzzle together.
Fetty Wap, whose real name is Willie Junior Maxwell II, was found guilty in 2023 of participating in a massive narcotics trafficking scheme. According to federal prosecutors, between 2019 and 2020, he assisted in the distribution of large amounts of crack cocaine, heroin, fentanyl, and cocaine throughout several states. The case was part of a larger federal investigation that resulted in other arrests and convictions related to the operation.
Fetty received a sentence of six years in federal prison and five years of supervised release that same year. The judge at the time acknowledged Fetty’s personal challenges and family obligations while also citing the gravity of the allegations. He became one of the more well-known artists to serve federal time in the last 10 years as a result of his sentence.
Fetty mostly kept quiet in public while incarcerated, which made his comeback all the more remarkable to those who followed his ascent from “Trap Queen” to chart supremacy.
Although Fetty’s next course of action is unknown, the options are unlimited now that his confinement is over.
