The hosts held tight to guarantee advancement to the round of eight despite persistent Moroccan pressure and late efforts from both teams. Despite displaying tenacity and creating their own opportunities, Tanzania’s Taifa Stars, who were playing in their first-ever AFCON knockout match, lacked the clinical edge to even the score.
Under constant pressure, Morocco’s defense, headed by Nayef Aguerd, maintained a clean sheet. Captain Achraf Hakimi played a crucial creative role, assisting Díaz’s game-winning goal.
The victory maintains Morocco’s unbeaten streak and their desire to capture continental titles at home. Later on Sunday, the South Africa vs. Cameroon game will determine the quarterfinal opponents.
