Ice Cube and Jennifer Lopez gave the Anaconda reboot their “stamp of approval”
The two starred in the original 1997 film, which follows a documentary crew in the Amazon rainforest as they pursue a big, fabled green anaconda under the guidance of a snake hunter.
Additionally, Jennifer and Ice Cube agreed to cameos when writer Kevin Etten and writer/director Tom Gormican chose to adapt the movie.
“We were always thinking that it would be fun to have the surviving members,” Gormican told Variety. We simply kept contacting each other. [They] endorsed it.
According to Gormican, the new picture, which stars Paul Rudd and Jack Black, is “a buddy movie that becomes an adventure film that becomes an action film that becomes a horror film.”
“Audiences are just tired of not seeing original stories,” he continued. There is a limit to people’s nostalgia after ten years of “here are some remakes of stuff that you used to love.”
Gormican wanted to depart from the original, even though the new film references it, including meeting a “real” Sony group working on a reboot.
“These are two stories about going up the river in a boat, aren’t they?” he asked. In essence, a snake slithers in the water or on land. It can bite you or wrap around you. This is similar to the original plot in that you are confined to the methods it kills and the framework of moving from point A to point B.I hold the original in high regard. I adore what they accomplished. However, I was not interested in playing in that sandbox.
