Jay Z’s attorney has filed a $25 million defamation lawsuit against Tony Buzbee

A lawyer associated with Team Roc alleges that the slander campaign seriously damaged his reputation and career.

A lawyer with a direct connection to Jay Z’s charitable endeavors is suing well-known lawyer Tony Buzbee, alleging that he started a deliberate smear campaign that harmed her career and reputation.

Marcy Croft, a longtime employee of Team Roc, Roc Nation’s charity arm, has sued for $25 million in defamation in a Texas federal court.

Croft claims in court records submitted on December 17 that Buzbee and his Houston-based legal business exploited social media and court files to falsely accuse her of significant criminal activity.

According to the lawsuit, Buzbee publicly charged her with felonies such as “illegal client solicitation, bribery, intimidation, and obstruction of justice.”

Earlier this year, Croft brought a similar complaint against Buzbee in Mississippi.

According to Croft’s legal team, the charges were unfounded and intentionally damaging. According to her lawyers, the remarks were intended to undermine her reputation in the legal profession and were made with “actual malice.” According to the complaint, starting in December 2024, Croft was the subject of “deliberate falsehoods.”

Jose Maldonado, a former customer of the Buzbee Law business, allegedly contacted Croft for advice after accusing the business of mismanaging client cash, according to the lawsuit.

According to Croft, she told Maldonado that he might have been the target of a “fraudulent scheme,” but she didn’t think there was enough proof to pursue a civil lawsuit. Croft also says that when she was on the phone with Maldonado, she heard what sounded like a recording device.

Additionally, according to the lawsuit, Buzbee’s firm accused Croft of planning an illegal scheme in which she allegedly employed agents to approach former Buzbee clients and give them up to $10,000 in exchange for bringing baseless claims against him. Croft disputes the claims and is requesting both monetary and punitive damages, claiming she endured psychological anguish and long-term damage to her reputation.

Croft asserts that his version of the purported agent scam was directly mentioned in Buzbee’s lawsuit against her and Roc Nation during the time these events took place.

Shortly after Buzbee, acting on behalf of an unnamed accuser, filed a separate lawsuit alleging that Jay Z and Diddy had sexually assaulted the woman in 2000 when she was still a minor, the legal tension increased. Earlier this year, that lawsuit was eventually abandoned.

In a public statement at the time, Jay Z expressed his fury at the charge and Buzbee’s legal strategies.

In a statement published in December of last year, Jay Z claimed, “My lawyer received a blackmail attempt, called a demand letter, from a ‘lawyer’ named Tony Buzbee.” “He had calculated that I would want to settle because of the nature of these allegations and the public scrutiny.” “No, sir, it had the opposite effect!” he said. I felt compelled to publicly reveal you as the phony that you are. Therefore, no, I won’t give you a single red penny!

In response, Buzbee refuted Croft’s assertions. “I sued her in Texas for her illegal activities, and only then did she file a case against me months ago,” he stated.

Buzbee continued, “Her frivolous case filed against me was dismissed,” in reference to the Mississippi complaint. I’m still pursuing my case against her. She made an unsuccessful attempt to get it dismissed. A judge in Houston has previously reviewed my allegations against her and recognized that her baseless case is an attempt by her to manipulate the media.

“She is a classic bottom feeder,” he added, continuing his criticism. She embodies everything that is wrong with the legal profession, in my opinion. My goal is to force her out of business.
