Namibia appoints a new governor of the central bank from next year
The president of Namibia announced on Friday that Ebson Uanguta would succeed Johannes Gawaxab, whose resignation was announced last month, as governor of the country’s central bank on January 1.
Since January 2012, Uanguta has been one of the deputy governors of the Bank of Namibia.
Uanguta was appointed governor for five years, according to a statement from President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah’s office.
A!Gawaxab led the central bank during the COVID-19 epidemic after being appointed in June 2020.
Resource-rich Namibia became a hub for international energy corporations during his reign. By 2030, it hopes to produce its first crude oil, which may revolutionize its tiny economy.
