Anthony Joshua gives Jake Paul a harsh reality check by knocking him out in the sixth round
Anthony Joshua, the former heavyweight champion, calls out Tyson Fury after knocking out Jake Paul in a Miami fight.
Jake Paul, a social media celebrity who turned prizefighter, was given a harsh reality check on Friday by former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, who knocked him out in the sixth round in Miami, leaving Paul with what appeared to be a broken jaw.
After a lackluster first four rounds in which Paul avoided the widely favored Briton, Joshua finally got within striking distance, taking down his opponent twice in the fifth round and killing him with a stunning right hook in the sixth.
After a 15-month hiatus, Joshua said, “It took a little bit longer than expected but the right hand finally found its destination.”
“Tonight, Jake Paul has performed incredibly well. I would want to commend him. Time and time again he stood up. Even though it was challenging for him, he persisted in trying to figure something out.
“To do it, a true man is required. However, tonight he faced a true fighter.
Netflix’s around 300 million customers globally saw the fight live.
Joshua quickly focused on longtime opponent Tyson Fury following the bout.
He said, “If you’re a true bad guy, stop talking like this and that and let’s see you in the ring and talk with your fists.”
Joshua’s stature, strength, and expertise were too much for Paul, who moved up from cruiserweight and has attracted a new audience to boxing through his fights and promotion business Most Valuable Promotions.
Paul exclaimed, “I think my jaw is broken,” and then he spat blood.
It’s undoubtedly broken, but that was awesome, dude. One of the greatest people ever to do it gave me a lovely little whooping. I will eventually return and win a world championship title.
The spectacle failed to impress critics.
Former UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling wrote on X, “This is a clown show.”
In the early rounds, Paul frequently dove at Joshua’s legs and ended up on the canvas, frustrating both Joshua and the spectators.
“What’s causing the complaints? Podcaster and former mixed martial fighter Josh Thomson wrote, “You knew what you were going to get.” “You were living in denial if you had any other thoughts.”
Trump claimed to have seen the fight while on the road.
“I just got to watch the Jake Paul fight on the plane, and he did really well, especially as a display of GREAT Courage against a very talented and large Anthony Joshua,” he wrote on Truth Social before the fight.
“Overwhelming entertainment, but congrats to Jake for his endurance and, to be honest, ability against a much larger man!”
