Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are working together to produce a romantic comedy for Netflix

Prince Harry and his wife Meghan will collaborate on The Wedding Date through their Archewell productions company, as part of their creative partnership with the streaming service, with Tracy Ryerson also participating.

Tracy Oliver, known for her work on Girls Trip, will adapt Jasmine Guillory’s best-selling novel. The story follows a career-driven political strategist who poses as a stranger’s wedding date after a chance encounter in an elevator, reigniting her belief in romance.

The announcement follows a week after it was disclosed that the royal couple will serve as executive producers for a new documentary titled Cookie Queens, produced by Archewell Productions.

The documentary is described as “captivating, candid, and full of heart,” following four girls aged five to twelve and their families as they navigate the annual whirlwind of selling, striving, and succeeding.

“For these Girl Scouts, selling cookies transcends the realm of Thin Mints and sisterhood – it serves as an invaluable introduction to the world of entrepreneurship.” Behind the smiles and cookie boxes exists genuine pressure: extended hours, ambitious sales targets, and the burden of elevated expectations. Nahmias creates a striking, vivid, and insightful portrayal that respects the girls’ viewpoints and highlights the emotional and intellectual significance of their experiences.

The duchess has a deep passion for the project, stemming from her time as a Girl Scout in her youth, where she sold boxes of cookies to raise funds for the organization.

The former actress, who married Harry in 2018, expressed in a statement: “As a former Girl Scout myself, with my mom as my troop leader, I have a personal connection to this film and am proud that our discussions and collaboration have resulted in Archewell Productions partnering with this award-winning team to executive produce this truly engaging documentary.”

“Upon our initial viewing of the early footage for this documentary, we were instantly drawn to the opportunity to be a part of it.” The imaginative perspective, the bold yet relatable tone and style of the direction, along with the behind-the-scenes look at the nostalgic yet contemporary tradition of Girl Scout Cookie season, are simply captivating.

Director-producer Alysa Nahmias is excited to collaborate with the royals on the project.

Alysa expressed her pride and excitement in a statement: “I’m thrilled to be premiering Cookie Queens at the Sundance Film Festival – a guiding light on my creative journey – and to share that Prince Harry and Meghan, Duke and Duchess of Sussex, along with the Archewell Productions team, are partners in this project as we unveil the stories of these remarkable girls to the world.”
