DJ Warras a well-liked South African DJ was shot dead in Johannesburg as police began a manhunt
Authorities are searching for suspects following the shooting of radio and club DJ Warrick Stock in central Johannesburg during daylight hours.
Shock has enveloped South Africa following the tragic shooting of a beloved radio and club DJ in Johannesburg, underscoring the nation’s persistent battle with violent crime.
Warrick Stock, recognized as DJ Warras, tragically lost his life on Tuesday afternoon in the city centre. Authorities reported that a 40-year-old media figure was confronted by three individuals, one of whom discharged a firearm before escaping on foot.
The reason behind the shooting is still unknown, and there have been no arrests thus far. Officials report that the murder marks the most recent incident in a troubling pattern of violent offenses that have unsettled the nation in recent years.
Local police chief Fred Kekana reported that Stock was assaulted while exiting Zambesi House near the Carlton Centre, where he had spent several hours supervising the installation of security systems.
In a statement, the South African Police Service reported: “It is alleged that the victim was approached by three unknown suspects after parking his vehicle, who then opened fire at him before fleeing the scene on foot.”
Kekana stated that CCTV footage revealed a man with dreadlocks, clad in what seemed to be a security uniform, firing at Stock before fleeing the scene. He mentioned that the DJ tried to flee after being shot but fell down across the street.
Authorities reported that Stock possessed an unused firearm and that no items were taken during the incident. At the scene, cartridges and other crucial evidence were recovered.
Officials are urging anyone who witnessed the event to step forward.
“It is understood that they traveled a considerable distance following the shooting, and officers are actively monitoring their movements to ascertain their location,” Kekana stated.
Nicole, Stock’s sister, expressed that the family was having difficulty accepting his death.
“I am astonished.” I find myself at a loss for words. “I am shattered,” she expressed to SABC.

Mzansi Magic stated that Stock was recognized for his charisma, warmth, and sharp wit, emphasizing that his legacy “will live on.”
South Africa experiences one of the highest murder rates globally, with police data indicating that approximately 63 individuals were killed daily from April to September, primarily due to robberies and gang-related violence.
