FIFA introduces a $60 ticket tier in response to complaints about the cost of the 2026 World Cup

FIFA unveiled a limited quantity of $60 “Supporter Entry Tier” tickets on Tuesday in an effort to lower the cost of tickets for the World Cup the following year for supporters of qualified countries.

According to the governing body of football, the cheap tickets would be valid for all 104 tournament matches, including the championship game.

Ten percent of the funds allocated to Participating Member Associations (PMAs) will go toward the cheaper tickets.

The PMAs, who oversee specialized fan ticket programs and represent rival national teams, will be in charge of allocating tickets.

Additionally, they will establish their own standards for giving tickets to “loyal fans” who have strong ties to their national teams priority.

“In total, half of each PMA’s ticket allocation will fall within the most affordable categories: 40% under the Supporter Value Tier and 10% under the new Supporter Entry Tier,” FIFA stated in a statement.

“The remaining allocation will be split evenly between the Supporter Standard Tier and the Supporter Premier Tier,” they stated.

The administrative costs associated with refund claims will be waived for fans who apply through PMA ticketing programs and whose teams do not advance to the knockout stage.

The revelation coincides with increased scrutiny of ticket prices in advance of the 2026 tournament, which is scheduled to take place in Canada, Mexico, and the United States from June 11 to July 19.

FIFA was accused last week by Football Supporters Europe (FSE) of charging “extortionate” ticket fees that would make it impossible for regular supporters to attend the event.

FIFA noted that despite the criticism, there was a lot of interest in the third phase draw of the sale, which started on December 11 and would run until January 13. This interest was fueled by the announcement of match dates, locations, and kickoff times.
