Bonmati wins the women’s prize for the third time, and Dembele is named FIFA player of 2025

Spain and Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmati won the women’s FIFA Women’s Player of the Year award for the third consecutive year, while Paris St. Germain and France forward Ousmane Dembele was named FIFA Men’s Player of the Year in Doha on Tuesday.

Dembele scored 35 goals in all competitions last season, including 21 in Ligue 1, to finish as the top scorer. He also played a key role in PSG’s first Champions League victory when they defeated Inter Milan 5-0 in the final.

The 28-year-old, who won this year’s Ballon d’Or in September, was a member of the PSG squad that advanced to the Club World Cup final and swept all opponents at home last season.

Dembele was already in Qatar for the Intercontinental Cup final between PSG and Flamengo on Wednesday, so he was able to attend the ceremony.

“I want to thank all my teammates, it just shows that hard work pays off,” Dembele stated.

“I’ve had an amazing year, both personally and as a group. Next year, I hope to return here.

In addition to winning the women’s Ballon d’Or for the third consecutive year, Bonmati, the Champions League player of the season, assisted Barcelona in winning the domestic treble and making it to the Champions League final.

The 27-year-old was awarded Player of the Tournament after Spain advanced to the Euro 2025 final and lost to England on penalties.

In the midst of recuperating from surgery for a fractured fibula, Bonmati expressed gratitude to the players, coaches, and supporters who voted for him to receive this honor.

Luis Enrique won the men’s coach award after leading PSG to their first Champions League victory, and Sarina Wiegman earned the best women’s coach award for the fifth time after helping England win the European Championship again.

Hannah Hampton of Chelsea and England earned the best women’s goalkeeper award. Her penalty shootout saves were crucial to the Lionesses’ victory in Euro 2025, and her team also won the domestic treble.

For his part in PSG’s treble victory, Gianluigi Donnarumma of Italy, who currently plays for Manchester City, took home the men’s keeper award.

Lizbeth Ovalle of Mexico’s scorpion kick for Tigres versus Guadalajara in March earned her the FIFA Marta Award for the best goal in women’s football.

In a May Argentine Primera match, Santiago Montiel’s overhead goal for Independiente versus Independiente Rivadavia earned him the Puskas Award for finest men’s goal.
