Chiefs prepare for the worst while quarterback Patrick Mahomes waits for a left knee MRI
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes departed Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers with 1:53 left and is currently awaiting an MRI on his left knee.
For the first time in Mahomes’ career, the defeat kept Kansas City out of the playoffs. According to head coach Andy Reid, testing may take place on Monday or Sunday evening.
“Patrick’s left knee was injured. Reid added solemnly, “We’ll get an MRI (Monday) or this evening whenever they get him in there.”
When asked how serious the injury was, Reid replied that he was bracing while awaiting official news.
It didn’t look good, but I’m not sure. You guys saw it, after all. Reid remarked, “We’ll just see where it goes.”
Mahomes admitted on Sunday night that he was having emotional difficulties, but he also promised that if he gets better, he will be even better.
“I’m not sure why this had to occur. And it hurts, I won’t lie,” Mahomes posted on social media. But at this point, all we can do is put our faith in God and keep attacking every day. I am grateful to everyone who has reached out and sent prayers, as well as to Chiefs Kingdom for their unwavering support. I’ll return stronger than before.”
The Chargers’ Da’Shawn Hand grabbed Mahomes from behind as he was scurrying outside the pocket. As he fell to the ground, his left knee seemed to be hyperextended. As backup Gardner Minshew entered the game in relief, medical personnel assisted Mahomes in limping to the locker room.
With the victory, the Chargers, who are 10-4 and still in the running for the AFC playoffs, completed a season sweep of the Chiefs.
“I hope all is OK with Patrick Mahomes. “He is among the greatest competitors in the history of the game,” stated Jim Harbaugh, coach of the Chargers. “I hope he’s okay and I have complete respect for him. Thoughts and prayers are with him. I’m hoping he escaped a bullet.
At the time of the injury, the Chiefs were behind 16–13 and had the ball in midfield. With 14 seconds remaining, Derwin James Jr. intercepted Minshew’s fifth pass attempt at the Los Angeles 18-yard line.
“I don’t believe I’ve ever had greater respect for anyone I play with. Minshew remarked, “I’ve never witnessed anyone I play with devote so much of themselves to the team.” “I have more confidence in him than anybody to come back better than ever.”
Mahomes started the first quarter with a 12-yard rushing touchdown after completing 16 of 28 throws for 189 yards. This season, he has thrown for 3,587 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
Kansas City (6-8) was eliminated from playoff contention after the defeat. The Chiefs represented the AFC in five of the previous six Super Bowls, winning three titles, and had advanced to ten consecutive postseasons, including the last seven with Mahomes leading the attack.
