21 individuals are killed by flash floods in Safi, Morocco
Flash floods caused by heavy rains on Sunday killed at least 21 people in Safi, a region on Morocco’s Atlantic coast, 330 kilometers (205 miles) south of Rabat, according to Moroccan authorities.
According to a statement from authorities, 32 persons were also hurt by the floodwaters, and the majority of them have since left the hospital.
As rescue operations continue, they reported that an hour of intense rain was sufficient to flood homes and businesses in Safi’s old town, sweep away cars, and cut numerous roads in Safi and its environs.
After seven years of drought that depleted some of its primary reservoirs, Morocco is currently seeing a lot of rain and snowfall on the Atlas highlands.
