Savage first used the term “pedophile” when discussing his experience, but he quickly stopped and corrected himself, stating that Atlanta is better described as a “grooming city” and that “pedophile” was the incorrect word.

Savage clarified that between the ages of 10 and 12, he and the children in his immediate vicinity were already exposed to nightlife, club culture, and adult settings. In order to blend in and go to places like Cascade and skating sites with his buddies, he recalled how he used to take out trash in his apartment complex for $2 in order to get Chuck Taylors and Dickies. He also described how hustling began early in his life.

He explained how establishments would serve pitchers without alcohol, usually just Sprite, and let children enter with wristbands, creating an alcohol-free club atmosphere. Savage claims that this type of access conditioned children for the club scene even before they reached maturity by normalizing nightlife before adolescence.

Savage claimed that after being exposed to club culture since he was 11 or 12 years old, he had grown weary of it by the time he was in his 30s. He claimed that Atlanta prepared him for that way of life so early on that it eventually became completely unappealing.

21 Savage, who was born in London and grew up in Atlanta, has always acknowledged that the city influenced his identity. This time, however, he presented that effect as something that, rather than preserving children’s youth, forced them into adult routines too soon.
