Zelenskyy meets with European leaders in London, and while the EU shows support, Trump is still dubious
Zelenskyy engaged with European leaders in London to promote a 20-point peace plan concerning Russia, whereas Trump voiced skepticism and concentrated on migration issues.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy convened with European leaders in London on Monday, characterizing the discussions as fruitful in his continuous pursuit to conclude Russia’s invasion.
Zelenskyy was joined by the United Kingdom’s Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who are collectively referred to as the E3. The president of Ukraine announced that a 20-point peace proposal, created in collaboration with European partners, will be completed and presented to the United States by the end of the day.
The ongoing discussions highlight that territorial control stands as the primary contentious barrier to achieving a lasting agreement. In light of these challenges, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized that the EU has both the resources and the political determination to apply pressure on Russia to engage in negotiations.
At the same time, US President Donald Trump conveyed doubt, indicating that his attention is directed towards European matters like mass migration instead of the urgent mediation of the Ukraine conflict.
The discussions in London represent a crucial initiative by European leaders to strengthen backing for Ukraine while investigating possible paths to peace, despite the varying priorities of global stakeholders.
