Dangote Establishes a $700 Million Education Fund to Improve Skills and Lower Nigerian Out-of-School Children
Dangote promises to invest $700 million over ten years to increase access to education and create a trained labor force across the country.
A $700 million education fund has been announced by Nigerian business magnate Aliko Dangote with the goal of improving technical skills and addressing the country’s high out-of-school rates.
In a panel discussion with Sheikha Al Mayassa and Bill Gates, Dangote emphasized the importance of innovation, philanthropy, and strategic alliances in transforming possibilities throughout Africa.
“Partnership is important because we have 1.4 billion people in Africa,” Dangote stated. “We collaborated with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to end polio in Nigeria because partnerships are important. We will start a $700 million fund to support education next week because many of our kids are not in school. After ten years, we’ll reassess it. We are taking that action because training is one of the many difficulties we face in Africa.
In order to guarantee seamless operations at the refinery that produces 160,000 barrels per day, Dangote Petrochemical has trained over 50,000 Nigerians, the company claimed. “Our investment in education will increase talents for industries in Nigeria, while the skilled workforce will be redeployed as part of the refinery’s ongoing expansion,” he stated.
It is anticipated that the program will increase educational opportunities, lower the number of children who do not attend school, and develop a pool of qualified workers prepared to assist Nigeria’s industrial and economic development.
