TikTok Celebrates Africa’s Greatest Creators of 2025: A New Era, New Icons
Africa’s newest icons have been crowned by the TikTok community. On December 6, Johannesburg was illuminated by the 2025 TikTok Awards Sub-Saharan Africa, which marked a significant turning point in the quickly changing creator environment of the continent. TikTok celebrated the innovators who are transforming culture, narrative, and digital influence throughout the area under the audacious theme “New Era, New Icons.”
Top African performers, including Ciza, Lord Kez, Thuli P, DJ Fif_Laa, and Thabsie, offered guests an incredible evening of glamor and glamour. While Red Carpet presenters Keegan Gordon and Zayaan Noorani caught every moment of style and flair, popular creator and entertainer Bontle Modiselle-Moloi took center stage as host, bringing unstoppable energy to the event. As a testament to TikTok’s dedication to elevating the voices influencing entertainment, education, and social impact throughout the continent, the winners came from Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, and Tanzania.
TikTok’s Head of Content Operations for Sub-Saharan Africa, Boniswa Sidwaba, reflected on the evening’s events, saying, “Tonight’s ceremony was a gathering of the trailblazers who have redefined what it means to be a creator in Africa.” From Accra to Pretoria, from Sokoto to Nairobi, we celebrated the artists who transformed 60-second videos into cultural movements. As they raise their voices and share their tales from Africa with the globe, we are honored to honor them.
On December 11 at 20:00 SAST, the ceremony will be rerun exclusively on TikTok LIVE on the @tiktok.africa account, giving viewers around Africa another opportunity to take in the glitz, performances, and moments of heartfelt acceptance.
The following are the 2025 winners: NIVEA-sponsored Creator of the Year
Raja’atu Muhammad Ibrahim @diaryofanortherncook (Nigeria) was the winner.
The most coveted title of the evening went to @diaryofanortherncook, who was acknowledged for her skill in combining the rich sounds of northern music with food to create visual storytelling. The inventor, who is based in Sokoto, has captured the interest of a worldwide audience by using a cinematic style to depict Northern Nigerian cuisine.

Brian Nwana @briannwana (Nigeria) won.
Located in Abuja, Because of his culinary content, @briannwana won the Storyteller of the Year award. Brian has a unique talent for encapsulating the human experience, bite by bite, through everything from street interviews to gripping personal tales interwoven throughout his culinary explorations. Audiences are captivated by his material from the very beginning to the end. The most recent instance of his audacious, creative approach to content is his Guinness World Record for the most fast-food establishments visited in a 24-hour period.
“Every creator is a storyteller,” Brian Nwana said as he accepted his medal. We all contribute to the local communities, our cities, and our nations by telling tales, and when we do so, we alter how the world sees us.
Fanuel John Masamaki @zerobrainer0 (Tanzania) won Video of the Year.
After winning Sports creative of the Year in 2024, Tanzanian sports creative @zerobrainer0 triumphantly returns with Video of the Year. His distinctive beige blazer and his deadpan comedic take on football moments have made him a fan favorite across the continent. “I sincerely appreciate the kindness I have received from Tanzanians and my followers. Many thanks. “This victory was for all of us,” Masamaki said as he accepted his prize.
Winner of Rising Star of the Year: @tunero_animations (Kenya)
African storytelling’s future lies in animation. The Rising Star award, which honors the next generation of talent, went to Nairobi-based @tunero_animations, which has made a name for itself with animated characters like Bob Kichwa Ngumu, whose witty, sardonic, and obstinate qualities appeal to Kenyans and people all over the world.
The runner-up, Esther Francis @estherfrancisbackup (Nigeria), gives health information a unique and approachable touch while providing users with reliable information.
Creator of the Year for Social Impact (sponsored by Dis-chem)
Winner: Nigerian Dejoke Ogunbiyi @noositiwantiwa_

Coca-Cola-sponsored Food Creator of the Year
@malumfoodie (South Africa) won.
The self-taught chef from Pretoria, @malumfoodie, won the prize because of the flavor and enjoyment his movies offer in the kitchen. He adds a new, fun edge to his dishes and dinners with his approachable recipes and captivating delivery in native South African languages and Spitori, a South African street language.
Malume reflected on the significance of the award and remarked, “From my humble beginnings of Haamanskraal, to Soshanguve, and to all of South Africa, now we are in Africa!” “
Abena Amoakoaa Sintim-Aboagye @chefabbys (Ghana) came in second. presenting Ghanaian food to the globe in a fashionable manner. She was just included in Time Magazine’s 2025 list of the world’s 1000 most influential creators.
The year’s top sports creator
John Maingi Mbugua @zozasportscast (Kenya) was the winner.
