Twenty-five people lost their lives in a tragic gas explosion that ignited a devastating fire at a nightclub in India

Twenty-five people, including workers and tourists, died in an Indian nightclub fire that started at midnight because of what was thought to be a gas explosion.

Twenty-five people, including club workers and tourists, died when a fire broke out late at night in a famous nightclub in Goa, India. The fire was thought to have been started by an explosion in a gas cylinder.

Alok Kumar, Goa’s Director General of Police, told reporters on Sunday that the fire started around midnight and quickly spread to the kitchen area on the ground floor, where most of the bodies were later found.

“The fire was mostly in the area around the kitchen on the first floor.” Around midnight, the fire broke out. “It’s now under control,” Kumar said, adding that the locations of the victims made it very likely that many of them were workers who were on job when the explosion happened.

Officials stated that six injured survivors are still in the hospital and are in stable condition. Pramod Sawant, the chief minister of Goa, said that three of the victims died from serious burns and others died of suffocation. He also said that “three to four” tourists were among the dead, but he didn’t say what country they were from right away.

Local news sources said the venue was Birch by Romeo Lane, a famous nightclub in the Baga area, which is one of Goa’s busiest beach corridors and known for having a lot of places to go out at night. People who were there said it was a mess as partygoers ran out of the club amid screams and thick smoke.

An onlooker told the BBC, “One minute everyone was having fun, and the next there were screams everywhere.” “I was outside the club when I heard yelling.” At some point, it became clear that there was a huge fire. Not much could be done. The scenes were truly horrifying.

Sunday morning, emergency workers were still going through the burned-out parts of the building to find bodies and secure the structure. Firefighters said that the victims are still being identified so that their families can’t be told.

There was a lot of security around the scene, and the nightclub’s doors were locked while officially investigating what caused the blast. Chief Minister Sawant promised that those who were responsible would be held accountable, saying, “Those found responsible will face the most stringent action under the law. Any negligence will be dealt with firmly.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the event was “deeply saddening” and sent his condolences to the families of the dead.

Millions of people visit Goa every year. It used to be a Portuguese colony and is famous for its beaches, nightlife, and resorts. The accident adds to a troubling pattern of fatal fires in India’s entertainment and hospitality venues, where poor safety has led to high death tolls over and over again.
