Dozens are killed in a deadly drone attack on a Sudanese kindergarten

33 children are killed in a horrific drone assault on a kindergarten in South Kordofan, but the warring parties in Sudan deny any involvement.

According to reports, a kindergarten was struck in one of the deadliest strikes since the civil war intensified, and a drone strike on the town of Kalogi in Sudan’s South Kordofan region has killed at least 50 people, including 33 children.

Both the Sudan Doctors’ Network and local army officials accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of carrying out Thursday’s strike in an interview. Regarding the accusation, the RSF has not responded.

However, the army was accused by the RSF of carrying out a separate drone attack on Friday that targeted a market and fuel store at the Adre border crossing where Darfur and Chad meet. According to Sudan War Monitor researchers, the strike resulted in significant market damage and civilian fatalities. The army has not yet responded.

Since April 2023, when a power struggle between the army and the RSF, which had previously been allies, descended into full-scale warfare, Sudan has been immersed in strife. There was no way to independently confirm the reports from Darfur and Kalogi.

Drone-launched missiles hit the kindergarten in Kalogi twice, according to the foreign ministry affiliated with the army. It further stated that attacks also targeted citizens and emergency medical personnel.

UNICEF regional spokesman Sheldon Yett responded to the incident by denouncing the attack on children.

“It is a horrifying violation of children’s rights to kill youngsters in their classroom. He asserted that children should never suffer as a result of conflict.
He called on all sides to permit humanitarian access that is secure and unimpeded.

One of the most active frontlines in the civil conflict is the Kordofan region, which is located between Khartoum and Darfur. As the army moves closer to Darfur, conflict has escalated in the region, which is home to about eight million people.
