US President Trump Receives FIFA’s First Peace Prize

US President Donald Trump has received the inaugural FIFA Peace Prize during a grand World Cup draw event in Washington.

President Donald Trump has been recognized as the inaugural recipient of the newly established FIFA Peace Prize, an accolade created by the governing body of world football to honor individuals who, in FIFA’s view, have undertaken “exceptional and extraordinary actions for peace” and contributed to uniting people worldwide.

In November, FIFA revealed plans for an annual prize, yet provided minimal information regarding the criteria for selection or the process behind the decisions. The organization had remained notably quiet regarding the recipient of the inaugural award, even amidst speculation that it was intended for the US president.

During the 2026 World Cup draw, Trump was bestowed with the honour, where he expressed that this recognition was “one of the great honours” of his life.

“The world is a more secure place now,” he stated. “A year ago, the USA faced challenges; now, we stand as the most sought-after country in the world.”

In his speech, Trump asserted that he was responsible for averting large-scale conflict in various regions, such as the Democratic Republic of Congo, India, and Pakistan.

“We have preserved countless lives — the Congo serves as a prime example.” Ten million perished, and they were approaching that number rapidly. “Additionally, with India and Pakistan, we intervened to prevent wars from occurring just before they began,” he stated.

Trump took the opportunity to praise FIFA president Gianni Infantino for what he characterized as unprecedented accomplishments in preparation for the 2026 World Cup.

“Gianni has performed exceptionally well.” A new record has been established in ticket sales. This serves as a lovely homage to both you and the sport of football, which we refer to as soccer. “It surpasses the figures we believed were achievable,” he stated.

The announcement signifies a notable introduction for the FIFA Peace Prize, yet uncertainties remain regarding the selection process for recipients and the criteria employed to define “extraordinary actions for peace.” FIFA has not provided clarity on the assessment process, which raises questions regarding the transparency and reasoning behind the decision.

The governing body maintains that the award will establish itself as an annual event aimed at highlighting individuals who have made notable contributions to global harmony — a mission that will remain under careful observation as future honourees are selected.
