DJ Quik’s son was just found guilty of murder and faces a 40-year prison sentence

The son of West Coast rap icon DJ Quik has been convicted of murder in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in 2022. The sentencing may confine him for many years to come.

On Thursday, December 4, a jury delivered a verdict in the murder trial of DJ Quik’s son, David Marvin Blake Jr., convicting him of second-degree murder and shooting from a motor vehicle for the killing of 33-year-old Julio Moises Cardoza Jr. on May 25, 2022, in Downey, California. The court upheld the enhancements for gun use and great bodily injury, which could result in a potential prison sentence ranging from 40 years to life.

The prosecution stated that the incident commenced when a confrontation erupted between Cardoza and another individual at a residence located in the 13200 block of Carfax Avenue, close to the San Gabriel River. According to prosecutors, Blake Jr. was in a nearby car when he allegedly exited, shot the victim multiple times, and then fled the scene. Cardoza passed away a few hours later at a hospital.

Blake Jr. entered a plea of not guilty after his arrest on May 26, 2022, in Porter Ranch. At the time of his arrest, he was in custody with bail set at over $2 million. Previous court reports highlighted his position as a liaison to a former member of the Compton city council.

Sentencing is scheduled for February 6 of the upcoming year, during which the judge will decide Blake Jr.’s specific term within the statutory maximum. For DJ Quik, whose real name is David Marvin Blake Sr., this setback adds to previous family challenges and occurs during a notable career that has lasted for decades in West Coast hip-hop.

DJ Quik has yet to release a statement concerning his son’s guilty verdict.
