Staff Heard Knocking Just Minutes Before Cremation: A Thai woman, 65, was discovered alive in her coffin
Just before cremation, a woman thought to be dead started to move within her casket, turning a peaceful day at a Thai temple into a frenzy. The unexpected incident occurred at the Wat Rat Prakhong Tham, a Buddhist temple in the Nonthaburi province close to Bangkok, according to the Associated Press.
After traveling more than 300 miles from Phitsanulok, the 65-year-old woman’s brother brought her in. After being bedridden for two years, she recently stopped responding. Her brother put her in a coffin, thinking she was dead, and tried to fulfill her wish to donate her organs at a hospital in Bangkok.
But the hospital refused to take her remains since there was no formal death certificate. In search of a different option, the brother took her to the temple for cremation, which also needed paperwork. The unbelievable happened at that point.
The general and financial affairs manager of the temple, Pairat Soodthoop, said, “I asked them to open the coffin because I was a little surprised, and everyone was shocked.” She knocked on the side of the coffin and opened her eyelids a little, as I witnessed. It seems like she has been knocking for a while.
A gentle knock came from the white coffin, leaving the temple staff stunned. The female was observed moving her head and arms. Emergency personnel quickly took her to a neighboring hospital.
The temple’s abbot has promised to pay for all of Pairat’s medical bills, she said. It is unknown who she is and how she is doing right now.
