Michael Jordan invests $10 million in a neuroscience institute named in honor of his mother—here’s what the center will provide
Michael Jordan’s $10 million donation to Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, North Carolina, is a tangible manifestation of his love for his mother. The Deloris Jordan Neuroscience Institute is scheduled to open in 2026, and the kind donation will aid in its launch.
For patients with neurological illnesses like stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and spinal abnormalities, this new facility will offer cutting-edge care. It is among the largest medical donations in the history of the area.
“I can’t think of a better way to honor my mother, who taught me the value of compassion and community,” Jordan wrote in a statement.
Through the James R. Jordan Foundation, Deloris Jordan has long supported healthcare and education. Following the terrible 1993 murder of her husband, James Jordan Sr., in a North Carolina heist, her dedication grew even stronger. Her desire to help underprivileged families through medical outreach and youth programs was sparked by that loss.
She described her son’s gesture as “humbling,” pointing out that it fits with her goal of providing top-notch care to those who most need it.
According to Novant Health, the money will be used to expand clinical services, improve technology, and hire top experts. Reducing travel time for individuals who frequently have trouble finding local neurological treatment is the aim.
Jordan and Novant had already collaborated to open two family clinics in Charlotte. Now that his mother’s name is attached to this new institute, he is raising the standard for charitable giving.
