Jay Leno Talks About His Wife’s Tragic Three-Year Cycle

Jay Leno talks candidly about his wife’s ongoing, excruciating sadness!

The TV personality has described how horrifying it is to watch his wife struggle to come to terms with the fact that her mother died three years ago from dementia.

Following Mavis Leno’s diagnosis last year, Jay Leno took on the position of guardian and legal caretaker for his wife, which he says he loves very much.

Jay Leno Describes His Wife’s Health Phase as a Difficult Experience

In an interview with Hoda Kotb on TODAY, the TV personality revealed that the most difficult aspect of managing his wife’s advanced dementia to date is witnessing her frequently remember her mother’s passing.

Every day, he said, she would wake up and realize that someone had just called to inform her of her mother’s passing. The comedian said she would become upset about it and that it has been difficult for her to come to terms with the fact that she deals with it every day as though it were her mother’s first death.

However, despite all, Mavis still remembers Jay’s face and his memory, so there is hope for the future. As said by Jay:

“She will remember me. That has not yet occurred. She seemed to be more at ease now. She also exudes happiness and contentment. Actually, it’s alright. It’s good. I like looking after her.

The comedian spoke about spending time with Mavis doing the things he loves.

Since assuming control of her estate last year, Jay has also had to take charge and take care of his wife’s needs, including her bathroom. The comedian said he even came up with a prom theme based around transporting her to and from the bathroom to make the experience more enjoyable for her.

He also mentioned that her hunger had improved, which has made him want to take her out to supper, but it is nearly impossible because of her condition. In his own words:

“You get to a stage in life when she enjoys taking trips. That she is unable to accomplish those things saddens me. However, there is an abundance of travel-related content on YouTube, which we watch, along with animal performances and other similar content.

The comedian still has a great deal of admiration for his spouse and knows her like the back of her hand despite this difficulty in their love tale. Jay gushed to Kotb about how his knees went weak at the sight of his wife’s grin.

Jay Leno is prioritizing his wife’s happiness.

The Blast reported earlier this month that the TV personality had the best description of what it’s like to be his wife’s caregiver. Instead of witnessing his wife suffer from a life-threatening illness like cancer, he felt fortunate to have her in his life.

Jay emphasized that even with his hectic schedule, looking after Mavis will always come first on his list of priorities. The host acknowledged that on sometimes, she would rather stay at home than travel far from work.

“I return home each day. The jet waited while I spent the day in Puerto Rico, and I returned immediately. I do that. Every night, I strive to be at home. The host asserted, “So that’s kind of what I do.” He was even commended by Mavis’ lawyer for being a strong support system for his wife.

Jay maintained that their marriage’s dynamics had not changed much since her diagnosis, and it was quite satisfying to watch his fiercely independent wife finally consent to receiving care.

Last year, the 75-year-old had a nasty fall.

The comedian slipped at his hotel as he tried to take a shortcut to an exit as the year was coming to a close. Jay’s accident resulted in a large black patch on his face and a blue bandage on his right arm, as reported by The Blast.

Nevertheless, he found the strength to play the next weekend at the Yaamava Casino in Southern California. The audience was packed with thousands of people eager to watch him perform and cheer him on.

He clarified that the slide occurred when he tried to walk the 1.5 miles downhill to a nearby eatery at the base of a hillside.

The comedian was seen driving around town with the face bruise, demonstrating that he did not let the incident stop him from living a normal life.

Jay Leno talked about how he survived a fatal garage accident.
