Kings star C Domantas Sabonis has suffered a torn meniscus and will be sidelined for a minimum of 3-4 weeks
Star center Domantas Sabonis suffered a partial meniscus rupture in his left knee on Thursday, according to MRI images, which further hurt the struggling Sacramento Kings, the team stated.
According to the Kings, Sabonis, 29, will undergo another evaluation in three to four weeks.
In Sunday’s 123-110 road loss to the San Antonio Spurs, three-time All-Star Sabonis finished with 17 points, 13 rebounds, and five assists. After the game, the team reported that he had left knee pain.
He did not participate in Wednesday’s 113-99 loss to Oklahoma City. Seven games in a row, all by double digits, have been lost by Sacramento (3-12).
In 11 games (all starts) this season, Sabonis has averaged 17.2 points, 12.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.2 steals, and 33.2 minutes. Sabonis, who has been incredibly resilient over his ten-year career, missed two games this month due to a rib problem and was sidelined for the season opening due to a hamstring ailment in the preseason.
Sabonis was traded to Oklahoma City the same day that the Orlando Magic picked him with the eleventh overall choice in the 2016 NBA Draft. He was traded by the Thunder to the Pacers in July 2017, and in February 2022, he was acquired by the Kings in exchange for Indiana’s point guard Tyrese Haliburton.
Sabonis has played in 657 regular-season games (517 starts) for the Thunder (2016–17), Pacers (2017–22), and Kings, averaging 16.1 points, 10.7 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 30.8 minutes.
