Ryan Coogler Says Black Panther 3 Will Be His Next Movie
The director of Sinners has acknowledged that finishing his trilogy in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) will be his next project after Sinners is out, and he is working “hard” to do it.
“If it was anybody but you, I would say, ‘I can neither confirm nor deny,'” he said at the Sinners discussion at Deadline’s Contenders Film: Los Angeles on Saturday.
“But we’re putting a lot of effort into it.” So, that comes next. It is indeed the upcoming film.
Ryan mentioned during his panel that he decided to film Sinners instead of intimate biopics or franchise blockbusters in order to give back to moviegoers worldwide.
“I believe it was because, really, the world’s moviegoers had given me so much,” he remarked.
“I consider myself extremely fortunate that, at my age, every movie I have ever written in an indirect manner has been released in theaters and, to a lesser extent, abroad. And since I fell in love with movies while I was sitting in a theater, I don’t take that for granted.
My life, the lives of my family, and my ability to travel the world have all been transformed by this art form. Because a film I did in film school was approved to an international festival, I received my first passport. My life’s trajectory has been radically altered by film.
The 39-year-old filmmaker was also eager to develop something that was inspired by his own vision rather than following an established franchise or repurposing someone else’s stories in the midst of labor issues in the industry.
According to him, there was a great deal of concern about the company and whether or not the shifting watching patterns would cause it to disappear.
And it made me sad because I realized that if the movies had ceased, I never would have done something that was really me.
“I really didn’t want to be a chicken*** about it.”
“I never really, genuinely showed myself in a movie setting, and I didn’t want to have hidden behind all these other franchises.
I grew up enjoying scary films, strange movies, and books. I thought that I hadn’t created enough unexpected moments and that I hadn’t accomplished anything in that area. I wanted to make a movie with a lot of them, even though I had already done that.
In addition to playing T’Challa in Ryan Coogler’s 2018 blockbuster Black Panther, Chadwick-Boseman made appearances in several MCU films, including Captain America: Civil War (2016), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (2019).
The actor died in August 2020 at age 43 following a covert fight with stage III colon cancer.
Letitia Wright, who plays T’Challa’s sister Shuri in the 2022 Black Panther sequel Wakanda Forever, took over the role after his passing.
Damson Idris had previously declined to confirm or refute rumors that he might play T’Challa in the third film.
When host Craig Melvin asked Idris if he had discussed becoming the next Black Panther with Marvel during an interview on the Today show, the actor replied, “Yes, no!”
When asked whether he would accept a role in Black Panther, the Snowfall star only said, “Yes!”
