UK will permit foreign students to apply for the innovator founder visa without having to travel abroad
International students in the UK can now obtain Innovator Founder visas to launch businesses while remaining in the country.
International students in the United Kingdom can apply for an Innovator Founder visa without needing to exit the country, as long as they fulfill certain criteria, as stated in an immigration White Paper that was approved last month.
The comprehensive 82-page immigration White Paper was published in May.
International students have the opportunity to apply for an Innovator Founder visa if they wish to establish and manage an innovative business in the UK, distinct from any existing offerings in the market.
The business should exhibit growth potential and show capability in generating jobs while expanding into both national and international markets.
The visa route will be implemented on November 25 and will remain in effect for a duration of three years. There are no restrictions on the number of extensions that can be granted, and applicants may have the opportunity to apply for settlement after residing in the UK for 3 years.
Applicants must have their business idea assessed by an endorsing body, meet the English language requirement, be at least 18 years old, and possess sufficient personal savings of at least £1,270 to apply.
Applicants must meet with their endorsing body after 12 months and again after 24 months to demonstrate business progress.
The modifications were announced during the same week that international students received a reduced timeframe of 18 months to secure employment following graduation, a decrease from the existing 2 years.
The Home Office stated that the changes, set to take effect from January 1, 2027, are essential for ensuring that graduates can contribute effectively to the economy.
