Sony Pictures Creates the Labubu Film in Response to the Worldwide Toy Craze
Sony Pictures is set to develop a Labubu film following the global success of the collectible dolls, although specifics regarding the format and release are still to be determined.
Sony Pictures has reportedly reached an agreement to create a film inspired by the popular Labubu dolls, which have ignited a worldwide phenomenon in 2025, as per Hollywood reports on Friday.
The film is currently in the initial phases of development, and it has yet to be decided if it will be live action or animated. Sony Pictures chose not to provide any comments regarding the project.
Labubus, developed by China’s Pop Mart, emerged as a sensation in 2025, drawing the attention of celebrity admirers such as Rihanna and Lisa from the South Korean group Blackpink. The dolls are packaged in “blind boxes,” keeping buyers in suspense about the specific model until they are opened, which enhances the thrill for collectors.
Sony Pictures, recognized for its work on the Jumanji franchise and Netflix’s animated success KPop Demon Hunters, is now focusing on adapting the toothy Labubu characters for the big screen.
