Super Eagles Return to Training for World Cup Playoff Against Gabon Following NFF Resolution of Unpaid Allowances
Nigeria’s Super Eagles have resumed training for the World Cup playoff against Gabon following the resolution of a payment dispute by the NFF.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria are poised to resume training following their boycott of a session on Tuesday due to unpaid allowances from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
The players and officials allegedly missed their evening training because the NFF has not yet paid the allowances for qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the 2026 World Cup playoff.
On Wednesday, the team’s media officer, Promise Efoghe, declared that the issue has been resolved.
He stated that the issues have been “resolved” and the team would “return to training by 5 pm.”
The specifics of the agreement between the players and the football administrators remain undisclosed, yet this development seems to have eased tensions within the squad.
In a tweet on X, Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong affirmed that the team’s concerns have been resolved, noting that players are “as before, focused on the games ahead.”
The Super Eagles are set to take on Gabon in a semi-final match of the 2026 African World Cup playoffs this Thursday.
The victor of this match will face either Congo DR or Cameroon in the final, vying for the opportunity to represent Africa in the intercontinental playoff.
