Kagame is in Guinea to start the “biggest” mining project

The Simandou Iron Ore operation, considered the world’s largest active mining operation, is being launched in Conakry, Guinea, where President Paul Kagame has arrived to join President Mamadi Doumbouya.

With an estimated three to four billion tonnes of high-grade recoverable iron ore, the Simandou deposit is the largest known unexplored iron ore reserve in the world. By 2030, the project should be operating at full capacity, producing about 120 million tons annually.

Under the subject “AI for Africa: Innovate Locally, Impact Globally,” President Kagame and his host, President Mamadi Doumbouya, will speak at the inauguration of this year’s Transform Africa Summit (TAS), which is being organized by the Smart Africa Alliance, on Wednesday.

Leaders and innovators gather at the Summit, which takes place every other year in Rwanda, the location of the Smart Africa Secretariat, to discuss how artificial intelligence may promote innovation throughout the continent, improve governance, and further economic integration in Africa.
