Wendy’s Plans to Shut Down Hundreds of U.S. Locations by the End of 2025
The fast food chain plans to strategically close its remaining locations in order to fortify them.
By the end of 2025, Wendy’s plans to shutter 200 to 350 underperforming locations nationwide.
The chain made the choice in an attempt to increase sales and profitability at local stores.
On the company’s earnings call, interim CEO Ken Cook stated that franchisees will be able to concentrate their attention and expenditures on shops that are performing better as a result of the closures.
“It is anticipated that closing underperforming units will increase sales and profitability at neighboring locations,” Cook said.
Which particular restaurants will close was not disclosed by the firm.
Some sites, Cook pointed out, “do not elevate the brand” and serve as a financial burden for franchisees.
This action is a component of Wendy’s “Project Fresh,” a comprehensive plan designed to boost overall performance at all of its U.S. restaurants and revitalize the 55-year-old chain.
