Messi expects to return after touring Barcelona’s renovated Camp Nou

Lionel Messi said on Monday that he would love to one day return to Barcelona’s Camp Nou. He had just returned from a short trip to see the newly renovated stadium where he spent 21 years of his magnificent career.

When he was 13, the 38-year-old Argentine World Cup winner joined Barcelona’s youth school and went on to score 672 goals in 778 games, making him the club’s all-time top scorer. He left the Catalan team in 2021 because they couldn’t afford to keep him.

After two years with Paris St. Germain, Messi now plays for Inter Miami. He has won 10 La Liga titles, four Champions League titles, and three Club World Cups with Barcelona.

Eight hundred and ninety-five days after it closed, Barcelona reopened the Camp Nou on Friday with an open training practice that 21,795 fans watched.

“I went back to a place I miss very much last night.” “A place where I was incredibly happy and where you made me feel a thousand times like the happiest person in the world,” the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner described on Monday on Instagram.

“I hope that one day I can return, and not just to say goodbye as a player, as I never got to do.”

He signed a new deal with Inter Miami in October, but Messi has said in the past that the Major League Soccer team would probably be his last.

Barça wrote on X, “You’re always welcome at your home, Leo.”
