Donald Trump wants the $3.7 billion stadium owned by the Washington Commanders to be named in his honor. “A Lovely Name,” the White House says
Trump reportedly advocated for naming rights to the Commanders’ new $3.7 billion stadium in D.C.
Donald Trump desires the new stadium for the Washington Commanders to bear his name.
Donald Trump is said to desire his name prominently displayed at the Washington Commanders’ upcoming home, quite literally.
Reports from ESPN and various outlets indicate that sources connected to the White House suggest Trump has shown interest in having the new stadium for the Commanders in Washington, D.C. named in his honor.
The team intends to construct a $3.7 billion domed stadium at the location of the former RFK Stadium, aiming for a grand opening by 2030. Trump has expressed his support for the Commanders’ return to D.C. and is said to have facilitated federal negotiations related to the land deal.
In response, sources indicate that Trump proposed the notion of naming the stadium after himself, describing it as a “fitting recognition” of his contributions. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt acknowledged the reports, describing it as “a beautiful name.”
The ownership group of the Commanders, headed by Josh Harris, has not provided any comments regarding the claim. Stadium naming rights are generally allocated to corporate sponsors, and any decision regarding naming in D.C. would necessitate approval from both the city and the National Park Service.
Although the idea of a “Trump Stadium” may seem fitting for Trump, it is not yet an official concept.
