White House says the US is working with other nations to put an end to the crisis in Sudan
The White House said on Tuesday that the U.S. is working with other countries to end the war in Sudan. This comes after reports that a lot of people were killed when paramilitary forces took over a city last week.
When the Rapid Support Forces took over Al-Fashir, the last stronghold of the Sudanese army in Darfur, it was a major turning point in the civil war in that African country. The militia group now controls more than a quarter of the land.
Karoline Leavitt, press secretary for the White House, said, “The United States has actively worked to bring about a peaceful resolution to the terrible conflict in Sudan.”
Monday, lawyers from the International Criminal Court said they are gathering proof of mass killings and rapes that are said to have happened in Al-Fashir.
The U.N.’s human rights office said on Friday that hundreds of residents and unarmed fighters may have died when the city fell. Witnesses say that RSF troops separated men from women and children, and then gunshots could be heard. The RSF says they are not hurting people.
