China warns the US not to meddle in Nigerian affairs following Trump’s military threat

China asserts its strong support for Nigerian sovereignty and its opposition to foreign meddling in the US’s purported charges of Christian persecution.

In response to US President Donald Trump’s threats to take military action over alleged Christian persecution, China has issued a warning against foreign meddling in Nigeria’s domestic affairs.

The foreign ministry spokesperson for China, Mao Ning, stated during a press conference in Beijing on Tuesday that China “firmly supports the Nigerian government as it leads its people on the development path suited to its national conditions.”

“China firmly opposes any country using religion and human rights as an excuse to interfere in other countries’ internal affairs and threatening other countries with sanctions and force,” she stated, referring to Nigeria as a comprehensive strategic partner.

Ning was reacting to Trump’s threat that if the Nigerian government would not halt what he called the “killing of Christians,” the US would “go into Nigeria guns-a-blazing.”

The Chinese official also responded to rumors that Nicolás Maduro, the president of Venezuela, is looking to China, Russia, and Iran for military support in order to get ready for any US attacks.

In the Caribbean Sea, Ning stated, “China has a clear-cut stance on the US cracking down on so-called ‘drug cartels’ by force.” China opposes the use of force or the threat of using force in international affairs and supports efforts to address cross-border crimes through increased international cooperation.

We oppose unilateral and overbearing ‘enforcement operations’ against the vessels of other nations, and we condemn actions that threaten peace and stability in Latin America and the Caribbean. Through bilateral and multilateral legal frameworks, we expect the US will participate in regular law enforcement and judicial cooperation.

Trump has instructed the US Department of War to get ready for “possible action” in Nigeria in a scathing tweet on Truth Social.

“The USA will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria if the Nigerian government continues to allow the killing of Christians. We may even go into that now-disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing,’ to completely eradicate the Islamic terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities,” Trump declared.

“I am giving our Department of War instructions to get ready for any action that may be necessary.” In the same way that terrorist thugs attack our CHERISHED Christians, our onslaught will be swift, violent, and sweet! THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT HAS TO ACT QUICKLY!

Claims of a Christian genocide have been denied by the Nigerian government on several occasions.

“The portrayal of Nigeria as religiously intolerant does not reflect our national reality, nor does it take into consideration the consistent and sincere efforts of the government to safeguard freedom of religion and beliefs for all Nigerians,” President Bola Tinubu said in response to Trump’s comments.

“Tolerance and religious freedom have always been central to our shared identity and will continue to be so. Nigeria does not support or condone religious persecution.
