Trump says that US troops or airstrikes “could be” in Nigeria
US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that the US military could send troops to Nigeria or use air strikes to stop what he called the killing of many Christians in that West African country.
Asked if he saw troops on the ground or airstrikes in Nigeria, Trump told reporters on Air Force One, “Could be.” What I mean is other things. I imagine many things. Nigerian authorities are killing more Christians than ever before… Extremely many Christians are being killed by these people. That is not going to happen.
The president said it on Sunday night as he was driving back to Washington, D.C., from a weekend at his Florida holiday home.
America’s most populous country, Nigeria, was told by Trump on Saturday that he would use armed force against it if it didn’t stop killing Christians.
The president of the United States threatened military action against Nigeria the day after his administration put the country back on a list of “Countries of Particular Concern” that the US says have broken religious freedoms. Chinese, Myanmar, North Korean, Russian, and Pakistan are some of the other countries on the list.
