In Uganda, a deadly traffic accident has claimed 63 lives
The Uganda Police Force has reported that a tragic road incident in Uganda on Wednesday, October 22, has resulted in at least 63 confirmed deaths and several injuries.
The accident happened at Kitaleba Village along the Kampala–Gulu Highway at approximately 12:15 a.m., according to a statement the police placed on X.
An Isuzu bus (Nile Star Coaches, registration number UBF 614X), a Toyota Surf (CGO 5132AB 07), a Tata Lorry (UBK 647C), and another Isuzu bus (Planet Company, UAM 045V) were among the four vehicles involved in the collision.
Initial inquiries indicate that the driver of the Nile Star bus, which was heading from Kampala to Gulu, made an effort to pass the Tata Lorry. The Toyota Surf was being passed by the Planet Company bus, which was approaching from the other way at the same moment. Throughout the maneuver, the two buses struck each other head-on.
Despite one driver’s attempt to prevent the collision, the buses collided, setting off a series of events that led to other cars losing control and overturning several times.
According to police, all 63 victims were inside the cars that were involved, and multiple others were hurt.
When emergency personnel arrived on the scene, they transported the injured to Kiryandongo Hospital and other local medical institutions. For postmortem investigation and identification, the deceased’s bodies were sent to the mortuary at Kiryandongo Hospital.
