Libya’s Zueitina oil company has reported a ‘limited’ pipeline leak, according to a statement

Libya’s Zueitina Oil Company has successfully contained a ‘limited’ leak on a 16-inch line that connects the Sabah and Zella oilfields, with no environmental impact reported, according to a statement from Libya’s state-run National Oil Corp (NOC) on Monday.

The statement added, “Technical teams repaired the leak site without recording any environmental impact or damage to nearby agricultural areas.”

A video released by the NOC depicts a stream of oil leaking in the desert, accompanied by a bulldozer working in the vicinity of the spill.

The NOC reported that oil flow was being gradually restored to the line connecting the two fields, while field teams continued on-site monitoring to ensure the pipeline’s integrity and prevent any future leaks.

Libya stands as one of Africa’s largest oil producers; however, its output has faced numerous disruptions throughout the tumultuous decade since 2014. This period began when the nation became divided between competing authorities in the east and west, a consequence of the NATO-backed uprising that led to the fall of Muammar Gaddafi.
