Australian PM Albanese’s and Trump Jr.’s private numbers were leaked on a US website powered by artificial intelligence

A US website that was AI-scraped revealed the private phone numbers of Donald Trump Jr. and Anthony Albanese, leading to an investigation.

Several prominent people’s private phone numbers, including those of Donald Trump Jr. and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, have been made public on a US website that scrapes data from the internet using artificial intelligence.

Ette Media, an independent Australian media, was the first to report on the revelation, which has caused significant privacy and security issues.

The matter has been acknowledged by Prime Minister Albanese’s office, and an investigation has been started by Australian authorities. The website, which was chosen to remain anonymous, says it has the contact information of hundreds of millions of professionals.

With limited free access and expensive memberships for more in-depth searches, it is frequently utilized by sales teams and recruiters.

Both Albanese’s private number and Donald Trump Jr.’s personal contact number were confirmed to be active in the database, but it’s unclear if the latter still uses the phone number provided.

The website also purports to include the numbers of other world leaders, such as Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, albeit some of them were out-of-date or inaccessible.

Sussan Ley, Australia’s opposition leader, was also impacted. According to a spokeswoman, the leak was “obviously concerning,” and a request had been made.

While Clinton’s call was picked up by an uninformed person, Obama’s number remained unanswered. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s number rang without anyone answering.

The event brings up new issues about data privacy, especially in Australia, which has recently seen several significant data breaches. Growing concerns about AI’s ability to gather and reveal personal data without authorization are highlighted by the leak.
