Germany will purchase 424 new wheeled armored vehicles for around €7 billion, with deliveries beginning in 2027

Germany has placed an order for 424 wheeled armored vehicles from Artec GmbH and General Dynamics, with delivery scheduled for 2031.

According to records received from the finance ministry, the German government plans to order 424 new wheeled armored vehicles, valued at around €7 billion ($8.11 billion). The arms agreement for the German army, or Bundeswehr, is anticipated to be approved in a matter of days by the budget committee of the lower house of parliament.

The transaction includes a framework agreement with General Dynamics, a defense group, to build and acquire 274 scout vehicles for about €3.5 billion. These cars will start to be delivered in 2028.

Furthermore, for about €3.4 billion, Germany will purchase 150 wheeled armored infantry battle vehicles known as “Schakals.” Artec GmbH, a joint venture between the defense companies KNDS and Rheinmetall, will be given the contract for these vehicles via the European Defense Procurement Agency OCCAR. The Schakal vehicles will be delivered between 2027 and 2031.

The deal also gives the buyer the opportunity to buy up to 82 more scout cars from General Dynamics, which may raise the initial order to 356 cars at up to €4.6 billion. Similarly, there is a possibility that the Schakal purchase will grow to include up to 200 additional cars in the future.

Germany’s commitment to improving its military capabilities in the face of changing security concerns is demonstrated by this significant modernization project.
