Trump’s plan to help Gaza succeed will have the support of the Palestinian Authority, a source said

The Palestinian Authority is prepared to cooperate with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and U.S. President Donald Trump in their endeavor to strengthen the ceasefire in Gaza and begin reconstruction, a top Palestinian official informed Blair on Sunday.

Trump’s plan to halt the war in Gaza offers the possibility that the Palestinian Authority, headed by President Mahmoud Abbas and headquartered in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, may someday seize control of Gaza—but only when it has finished its reforms. In 2007, the militant organization Hamas took over Gaza from Abbas.

In his proposal, Trump calls on Hamas to relinquish control of Gaza and envisions a Palestinian technocratic committee led by Blair and overseen by an international agency.

The deputy leader of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Hussein al-Sheikh, claimed to have met with Blair to talk about the day after in Gaza and ensuring that Trump’s plan for “stopping the Gaza war and establishing lasting peace in the region a success” happens.

“We have confirmed our readiness to work with President Trump, Mr. Blair and the partners to consolidate the ceasefire, the entry of aid, the release of hostages and prisoners, and then start with the recovery and reconstruction,” Sheikh stated on X.

The Palestinian Authority is not allowed to govern Gaza, according to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
