Trump Says Microsoft Should Fire Lisa Monaco Due to Security Issues
Trump calls for Microsoft to fire Lisa Monaco, claiming that her previous government position and removal of her clearance pose security threats.
head Donald Trump has demanded that Microsoft dismiss Lisa Monaco, a former US deputy attorney general and the company’s head of global affairs.
Trump’s Truth Social account, which has roughly 10 million followers, made the demand public on Friday. It happened the day after Trump urged prosecutors to take action against former FBI Director James Comey, who was indicted.
Trump stated in his post: “She poses a threat to US national security, particularly in light of Microsoft’s significant contracts with the US government.” The US government has revoked Monaco’s security clearances, denied her access to National Security Intelligence, and barred her from all Federal properties due to her numerous wrongdoings.
Microsoft chose not to respond to Trump’s comments. Monaco previously held key legal and security positions in government before joining the company in July, according to her LinkedIn page.
In a post on X earlier Friday, Maria Bartiromo, the anchor for Fox Business, mentioned her position and included a link to a July article on the website of the University of Chicago Law School.
One of Microsoft’s biggest customers is the US government, whose agencies depend on its productivity tools and cloud infrastructure. The business said earlier this month that government departments utilizing its services will save $3.1 billion.
Separately, Microsoft announced Thursday that it would terminate subscriptions to artificial intelligence and cloud storage for an Israeli military unit after looking into allegations the division had created a system to track Palestinian phone conversations.
According to NBC News, the dispute arises as Trump gets ready to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday. Earlier this month, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella joined other tech CEOs for a White House dinner.
