The Title of the Facebook Film Sequel Has Changed

The title and release date of the Social Network sequel have been changed.

The Social Reckoning, Aaron Sorkin’s much anticipated sequel to the 2010 blockbuster that narrated the story of Facebook’s founding and starred Jesse Eisenberg as its founder Mark Zuckerberg, will be published on October 9, 2026.

The sequel will feature Jeremy Strong, Mikey Madison, and Jeremy Allen White.

David Fincher will be replaced behind the camera by writer/director Sorkin, and Strong will succeed Eisenberg in his role as Facebook founder Zuckerberg.

The new film will center on Facebook developer Frances Haugen (played by Madison) and Wall Street Journal writer Jeff Horwitz (played by White), who work together to expose the most significant secrets of the social network.

The script explores the history of the Facebook Files, a collection of articles by Horowitz published in the Wall Street Journal in October 2021.

The articles aimed to reveal Facebook’s internal operations and the harms they inflict.

The film will also explore the site’s effects on violence, teens, and preteens, as well as its broader implications for nations worldwide.

When discussing his intentions for a follow-up in 2021, Sorkin insisted that “what has been going on with Facebook these last few years is a story very much worth telling.”

Last year, he stated on The Town podcast: “Among other things, Facebook has been adjusting its algorithm to promote the most contentious content possible.

“Because that is what will make people more interested.” That will lead you to what is known as “the infinite scroll” in Facebook’s inner workings.

“Growth and ethics are supposed to be in continual conflict at Facebook. There isn’t. It’s merely growth.
