Instagram Now Has Over 3 Billion Users Each Month
Instagram has reached three billion users, according to CEO Mark Zuckerberg of Meta, who attributes the development to creativity and Reels.
Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, announced on Wednesday that Instagram had reached three billion monthly active users, another significant milestone for one of the most widely used social media programs globally.
When Instagram reached over two billion monthly active users in 2022, with Zuckerberg’s help, Meta last revealed the app’s user numbers.
“This is a significant event for the world community, right before Instagram turns 15 years old. Instagram has always been about being creative, and it still is. Instagram is the place to interact with friends, whether you’re DMing them with memes, watching Reels that are exclusive to you, following all of your favorite creators, or sharing your creative moments, Meta wrote in a letter on Wednesday.
Instagram started out as a photo-sharing app with little revenue, but when Meta, now known as Facebook, purchased the social media platform for $1 billion in 2012, it sparked concerns about the company’s strategy, according to Reuters.
Since then, the app has experienced exponential growth, and according to some companies, it will account for almost half of Meta’s ad revenue in the United States this year.
Instagram’s Reels feature, which was introduced in 2020 and enables users to produce short-form material, is a key component of the platform’s popularity. TikTok and Google-owned YouTube shorts are two competitors in this sector.
According to a corporate spokeswoman earlier this month, TikTok, which is owned by the gigantic Chinese internet corporation ByteDance, has over 1 billion monthly visitors worldwide.
“A new way for you to have more control over your Reels algorithm, by letting us know what topics you want to see more and less of,” is one of the ways Instagram plans to connect people through creativity in the coming months, according to Meta.
In India and South Korea, a reels-first mobile experience is being tested, where users can jump straight into entertaining content and visit a Following tab to catch up with content from the people they follow. “Simplified navigation so you can easily swipe from Home feed > Reels > Messages.” This appears to be the new iPad experience we have. Before moving on to other countries, we will learn from this one.
