MI6 Chief Says There Is No Proof Putin wants to work out a peace deal with Ukraine

Richard Moore, the head of MI6, claims that there is “no evidence” that Putin wants to negotiate a peace with Ukraine.

There is “no evidence” that Moscow is willing to negotiate anything short of Kyiv’s complete surrender, according to the chief of Britain’s Secret Intelligence Service, MI6, who has ruled out the possibility that Russian President Vladimir Putin will pursue a real peace agreement in Ukraine.

MI6 chief Richard Moore said Putin had seriously miscalculated the world response to his conflict and the tenacity of Ukraine in a speech in Istanbul on Friday. Moore claimed that the Russian leader had overestimated the will of Ukrainians to fight the invasion, saying, “Putin has bitten off more than he can chew.”

Moore’s comments coincided with the announcement of MI6’s most recent plan to increase intelligence collection through the use of the dark web. Through safe web channels, the spy agency intends to enlist informants and obtain critical information from agents in Russia and around the world.

With Western intelligence services claiming that Putin is still committed to using force to accomplish his goals, the remarks highlight Britain’s ongoing skepticism regarding diplomatic exit strategies to end the conflict, which is already well into its third year.
