Tesla’s factory boss told DPA news agency that the plant in Germany plans to make more cars

The head of the Gruenheide factory told Germany’s DPA news agency on Sunday that Tesla (TSLA.O), opens new tab, plans to increase production at its German plant for the rest of the year because sales are so good.

“We have changed our production plans for the third and fourth quarters upwards because we have very good sales right now,” André Thierig, boss of the Gruenheide plant outside of Berlin, told DPA.

Germany is not an easy market for Tesla because there are a lot of tough competitors from China. Analysts say that Elon Musk’s political work may have also had an effect on demand.

Tesla’s sales dropped more than half from a year earlier to 1,110 cars in July. From January to July, sales were down 57.8%, according to the KBA road transport service.

Thierig said that the company was seeing good signs for all of the countries that the factory serves, not just Germany.

“We supply more than 30 markets, and we see a clear trend there,” he told DPA.
