Rwanda will switch up its troops in Cabo Delgado
Rwanda will replace the military contingent that has been stationed in Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado Province for the past year with a new one.
Major General Vincent Gatama will head the new Rwanda Security Forces (RSF) unit.
Rwanda has been sending troops to Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado Province since 2022 at the Mozambican government’s request in order to assist in the fight against terrorism and insecurity associated with ISIS.
Together with Mozambican forces, Rwandan troops drove the terrorist organization out of a number of cities, including Awasse, Palma, Quionga, Chinda, Mbau, Mpalanganha, Tete, Njama, Quelimane, and Siri, as well as its main bases in Mocimboa da Praia.
Maj Gen Vincent Nyakarundi, the Army Chief of Staff of the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF), and Commissioner of Police Vincent Sano, the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Operations, briefed members of the new contingent scheduled to travel to Mozambique on September 13 at the Rwanda Military Academy in Gako.
President Paul Kagame’s message, which Nyakarundi delivered during the briefing, emphasized the significance of preserving the discipline and momentum that the RSF has shown over the last four years.
Additionally, he praised the accomplishments of earlier contingents and emphasized the need to maintain these high standards.
The troops were reminded that activities intended to support the Mozambican state authority through combat operations and security sector reform require dedication and discipline.
During his speech, Commissioner of Police Vincent Sano asked the forces to always promote teamwork and refrain from any actions that would harm Rwanda’s standing.
