Former DR Congolese justice minister convicted of embezzlement
A judge in Kinshasa, the capital of DR Congo, found former Minister of Justice Constant Mutamba guilty of stealing public funds and sentenced him to three years of hard labor on September 2.
Mutamba quit his job in June after being accused of corruption. On Tuesday, the judge found him guilty of stealing $19 million that was supposed to be used to build a jail in Kisangani, Tshopo province.
He had to give the money back.
After Mutamba served his time, the Court of Cassation took away his right to vote and run for office for five years.
He was not allowed to go to public events and was not allowed to get limited release or rehabilitation.
