Kenya sends an envoy to Goma City, which is under M23 control
In Goma, the biggest city in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo that has been under the AFC-M23 rebels’ control since January of this year, Kenyan President William Ruto named a consul general on Friday, August 15.
State House spokeswoman Hussein Muhamed said that Ruto announced several new appointments and redeployments on Friday, including the nomination of Judy Kiaria Nkumiri as Consul General in Goma.
Kenya already maintains an embassy in Kinshasa.
Ambassadors and high commissioners were also appointed; they were sent, among other places, to Burundi, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Turkey, and Thailand.
In addition to Goma, the AFC-M23 rebels have taken control of Bukavu, the second-biggest city in eastern DR Congo, which they took in February.
