Burundi: Ndayishimiye names a new prime minister and reorganizes the cabinet
Burundi’s President Évariste Ndayishimiye has appointed Nestor Ntahontuye as the new Prime Minister, succeeding Gervais Ndirakobuca, in a significant cabinet reshuffle announced on Tuesday, August 5.
Ndirakobuca, who has been in the position since 2022, was recently elected as a senator and has now taken on the role of Speaker of the Senate after the country’s most recent legislative elections.
The cabinet changes arise as multiple former ministers have rejoined Parliament, resulting in key positions being left vacant and necessitating a comprehensive reorganisation.
According to Article 93 of Burundi’s 2018 Constitution, the appointment of a new prime minister leads to the automatic dissolution of the current government, necessitating its reform.

- Jean‑Claude Nzobaneza – Infrastructure, Social Housing, Transport and Equipment
