UK police arrest 55 people at a meeting for the banned Palestine Action group in Parliament rally
London’s Metropolitan Police said that 55 persons were taken into custody during a demonstration for the outlawed Palestine Action group outside the British parliament on Saturday.
According to the force’s post on X, the audience in Parliament Square had been holding signs in support of the organization that was outlawed this month under anti-terrorism laws.
In police vans, demonstration participants were removed, some of them sporting Palestinian scarves in black and white.
The group was banned by British legislators earlier this month after some of its members damaged jets and broke into a Royal Air Force facility to protest Britain’s backing of Israel.
Currently, membership in Palestine Action entails a maximum 14-year prison term.
A appeal to the prohibition will be heard at London’s High Court on Monday; the group has referred to the ruling as “authoritarian.”
Since the beginning of the conflict in Gaza, numerous organizations, including Palestine Action, have targeted defense industries and other British businesses associated with Israel.
Numerous members of the group have been arrested by police at protests throughout Britain since the ban was implemented.
